Trego’s record for the night was 5-2, placing them in third place. TMP took first, and Hays High received silver.
Trego knew going into the Ellis tournament that their toughest competition would be TMP. In round robin competition, their worst fears were realized as the Golden Eagles fell to the Monarchs, 50-60, in a nail biter. The only other loss was to Hays High, who outscored Treo 40-50, in another close match.
All the other competitions went Trego’s way: Phillipsburg, 60-30; LaCrosse, 70-10; Ness City, 45-40; Ellis, 70-0; and Hill City, 80-20.
The scholars’ bowl team will travel to Quinter on January 23.
