Playing host to the Plainsmen, the Golden Eagles fell just short against Oakley on January 31.

The Eagles kept the game close throughout the first half. Right before half time the score was 30-27, but according to Coach Lance Ziegler, “Oakley made a half court shot at the buzzer [to tie up the game] and just made me think We just can’t catch a break to get over the hump. [The shot] just changed the dynamic of the game,”

Ziegler went on to explain the game’s end.

“We had to play from behind most of the second half.  At the very end of the game, we had to foul to get the ball, which put Oakley on the free-throw line,” said Ziegler. “We had our opportunity, [but] we couldn’t make a basket when we needed one and missed critical rebounds.”

Trego lost to the Plainsmen, 56-61.

Ziegler commented on the game and season.

“We did compete very well. All year we played close games. If we would get everyone to play consistent every game, we could make a pretty good run the rest of the season.”
