MCL coaches met at Plainville High School to vote for MCL football standouts on November 21.

Eight TCHS students gained the attention and votes of the coaches for Mid-Continent All-League honors.

Earning Mid-Continent All-League First Team honors were Seniors Justin Daniels, John Griffith and Cameron Staples; and Sophomore Devon Ghumm. Daniels was honored for his offensive linemen efforts. Griffith, defensive back, stood out among his MCL peers for his record of four interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Staples, running back, earned notoriety with 222 carries for 1,537 yards and 22 touchdowns, and Ghumm’s three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles helped him make the 1st-team list.

MCL coaches named seven Golden Eagles to the 2nd-team lists: Martin Dietz, defensive lineman; Blake Fritts, offensive end; Jacob Weber, defensive lineman and offensive lineman; Staples, linebacker; Ghumm, running back; and Clayton Riedel, defensive back.

Two more athletes earned honorable mention awards: Griffith, quarterback; and Ghumm, offensive end.

The Golden Eagle football team, under the direction of Myron Flax finished the season with a 4-5 record.
