Trego came out strong in the first quarter as they limited their fouls and showed a strong offensively due to their unbreakable press. As a result, the Lady Eagles finished the first quarter, up 16-9. On their way to foul trouble in the second quarter, Norton outscored the Lady Eagles, 9-6. Still, Trego went into the half, up 22-18.
The Lady Eagles pressed their opponents to begin the second half, leading to Trego’s early scoring in the third quarter. However, when Trego dropped back into a zone defense, Norton scored easily. Trego then changed up their defense, in attempt to stop Norton’s Tawni Griffey, but the Golden Eagles struggled to shut Griffey down, who had 25 of Norton’s 30 points in the second half alone.
Once again, Trego‘s game fate came down to the wire. With a mere 30 seconds left in the game, Trego held a three-point lead. After a brief time-out, Griffey came out to hit a three pointer to tie up the game. Trego responded quickly with Hannah Dietz making a field goal to take back the lead. With three seconds remaining and Norton in possession, Griffey threw up a missed buzzer shot, making for another high intensity 50-48 win for the Lady Golden Eagles.
The 8-5 Lady Eagles will play against the 6-3 Ringnecks at Hill City on January 27.
