Choir 'hankers' to entertain community

Audience members rolled in their seats as choir members presented a hilarious play, Hankerin’ Hillbillies, in the high school auditorium on November 12-13.
Hankerin’ Hillbillies, adapted from a book by Pat Cook, with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, is a comedy about a family of girls who’ve got the hankerin’ to find a guy, no matter who he is or what he looks like.
Junior Olivia Fabrizius played the lead role of Charlie Herford, the studious daughter who has no interests in men until the guv’mint man comes on the scene. Sam Bailey, the male lead, played Marcus Slidell, the guv’mint man who falls in love with Charlie.
Other cast members included Bree Smart, Tabithia Smart, Christins Schreiner, Whitney Riedell, Sara Cunningham and Cassie Dietz, Seth Bailey, Kelsey Heronemus, Michele Brown, Jessie Worthington, Amanda Gosser, Stephanie Griffith, Kristi Halligan, Jessica Scheib, Alex Bird, Jamie Hendrickson, Alexa Kersley, Evan Cronn, Matt Neff, Rubin Sherwood, Nolan Smith, Eli Sherwood, Mitchel Kroeger and Pam Brown.
At the conclusion of the show, Sam Bailey thanked those who made the production possible, especially the play director, Kathy Jamison.

Three selected for District KMEA

Kristi Hallagin, Pam Brown and Rebecca Aaron will participate in the District NWKS High School Choir.
These students auditioned in front of a live panel of judges in early November to qualify for the Honors Choir.
The district choir will rehearse December 1 for the entire day and perform in a concert at Beach Schmidt Auditorium on the Fort Hays State campus beginning at 4:00pm that same day.
District Honor Band will also perform at this concert.
Admission will be $2, and all public is invited to attend.

Trego Show takes place on March 4
Diverse sounds filled the TCHS auditorium on March 4 when choir members, under the direction of Kathy Jamison, performed in the Trego Show.
The annual event featured 45 choir members, some who performed individually, the girls’ ensemble, mixed ensemble and duets.
Music ranged from country to pop to selections from the 50’s and 60’s.
The public was invited to the free concert, which is an annual event.

Students who received I ratings at Regionals are eligible to attend state.
Jackie Albin received a I on her flute solo “Bourèe Menuet,” to qualify for state.
Singing “Into the Night” and “The Ash Game,” Olivia Fabrizius will also perform at State music.
Also attending the State competition will be the Trego Girls’ Ensemble, who will sing “He Never Failed Me Yet.” The Girls’ Ensemble includes, Michele Brown, Pam Brown, Crystal Caruthers, Sara Cunningham, Olivia Fabrizius, Stephanie Griffith, Kristi Hallagin, Jami Hendrickson, Kelsey H., Jessica S., Christine Schreiner, Bree Smart, Tabithia Smart, Sarah Russ and Erin Russ.
The Trego Mixed Ensemble will be singing “Sing Jubilate Deo.” The Mixed Ensemble includes Sam Bailey, Seth Bailey, Michele Brown, Evan Cronn, Sara Cunningham, Olivia Fabrizius, Jimmy Gosser, Kristi Hallagin, Jami Hendrickson, Kelsey H., Will Papes, Christine Schreiner, Eli Sherwood, Rubin Sherwood, Bree Smart, Tabithia Smart and Aaron Workman.

State music was held at Concordia’s Cloud Community College on Saturday, April 26.
Trego girls ensemble sang “He Never Failed Me Yet” and received a II rating.
Receiving a I rating the Trego mixed ensemble sang “Sing Jubilate Deo.”
Olivia Fabrizius received a II on her vocal solo, and Jackie Albin received a III on her flute solo.
Students who received I ratings at Regionals were eligible to attend State.
Wind Ensemble, vocalists present spring concert

The concert choir and the wind ensemble performed in their final concert of the year on May 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the TCHS auditorium.
The wind ensemble, performing two numbers, began the program with, “Guantanamera,” a Cuban folk song, and “Ancient Voices.”
As a group, the choir then sang “The Prayer,” “May the Music Never End,” “Irving Berlin’s America” (medley), and “Seize the Day.”
The girls’ ensemble sang “Graduation Day.”
The mixed ensemble presented “Coming Home” and “Sing Jubilate Deo,” the song for which they received a I at State Music.
The boys’ ensemble sang “Aura Lee.”
Nine seniors presented flowers to their parents for supporting them: Sam Bailey, Sara Cunningham, Whitney Riedell, Cassie Dietz, Amanda Gosser, Matthew Neff, Aubrey Riedel, Bree Smart and Tabithia Smart. Due to illness in the family, Christine Schriener could not attend the concert.
